The Aftermath - oh yes, they keep screwing this up.
On the same day: Got a strange email from Vodafone telling me that I’m NOT on a plan that includes data. Seriously, what the fuck? I spent the morning on hold to get these costs removed, and they were, because I was entitled to the 500MB.
I just got hung up on. FFS.
Call back. Same voice prompts. Same waiting. Back - oh, same guy. Unlike Heather, this man is not empathetic, just plain rude. Back on hold. What a fucking surprise. 10 minutes. Still on hold. New song now.
20 minutes on hold: someone answers. Oh, you understand there have been issues? Wonderful. Now fucking fix them.
22 minutes: Back on hold.
25 minutes: Back.
“System error” - again: seems my plan still hadn’t been switched properly, even though the bill had been fixed.
My bill will be “re-rated” - they will manually go back and fix it. With only $70 left of a $600 cap, I cannot avoid exceeding it and they know that. Which is good. But I’ve been warned not to go “gung-ho” (I think that’s one of their technical terms) or I’ll incur a fee.
So. For now, it’s over. I don’t have to pay more than $800, and I don’t have to worry about breaking this month’s cap. I have little faith they’ll remember to manually fix my bill, but who knows.

Hi Jye, you might like to read this http://davidgillespie.wordpress.com/2008/02/07/an-open-letter-to-vodafone/ and then when you’re done, you might also like to read this http://www.emotionalprocessing.org.uk/EP%20&%20Psychological%20Therapy/Catharsis%20Venting.htm
Love your work.
Thanks Matt - yeah it was great to see David’s letter, a great piece indeed.
I actually just finished a song called Catharsis. :) Love it.
It’s interesting how ranting brings the world together.
Thanks again
I spoke to a colleague yesterday who had just finished loudly contesting his $1500 iPhone 3g bill with Voda Aus. He got it down to $1000. Believe it or not, it was mostly roaming charges - albeit the roaming data which really killed him.
Matt, such a shame to hear about those charges! Again - proving the fact that everything they’re doing is reactive and after the fact.
If they want to call it a cap. Then cap it. Or at least put together some very simple warnings for the users.
Wish your colleague the best for me.
