I did it. I finally did it. I bought the Nokia e61i. So far loving it. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great PDA that doesn’t become a totally useless phone. The Nokia’s Symbian OS has a vast range of applications to meet the desires of anyone who feels they miss WM 5.0. So here are my first impressions.
- Top application: Mail for Exchange
- Great functionality, on & off user-generated peak times
- All the additional applications are handily pre-loaded on the mem card (which is a Micro slot) and you just install the ones you want
- For you CrackBerry addicts, it comes with the software to seamlessly connect to the BB Enterprise server (now you can have a BB with all the cool toys..)
- It connects to fucking everything.. 3g, wifi, blue tooth, infra etc. BUT lacks a GPS receiving antenna, but with the piss-cheap price of the blue tooth-able external receivers, just stick it in your car and you’ll never even notice.
- Menu design could be better - maybe a 2 column list? But you can move any of the icons around and between folders to suit what ever you want.
- Web cursor when browsing very refreshing, great for normal site viewing
- Great slim design - even though it’s wider than my previous phone, it fits in the pocker much easier and feels much nicer
- Also can connect to a podcast server seamlessly
- Regarding the sales package, only thing I was disappointed by was the lack of case - it comes with NOTHING.
- Very rich colour and a great wide display for movies and pictures. Camera has a very quick capture rate.
Over all a nice freedom we once took for granted is that the phone isn’t tied to a particular network etc. I bought mine for $619 from a great bloke up in QLD at NextMobile.com.au - he has the very best price for genuine articles, and also at $12 for air express post it landed in Sydney the next day. Considering other stores wanted well in excess of $650, and some over $700 (ex P&H) it’s definitely the best buy. Call me obsessed - but I like to call it passionate. This guy is obsessed - he talks about his pre-bedtime e61i use. I just like toys. If you don’t then you’ll never understand. Go hug a fucking tree or something and let me enjoy my materialism, at least it makes me happy and their arent multi-billion dollar industries hating me. Their loving me. And I’m loving their money.
