I was completing what I thought was just another credit card purchase form, and for some reason the ‘promotional code’ box caught my eye. So I thought, what the hell? I’ll google for a code and see what comes up. Sure enough, I ran into RetailMeNot.com.
This is a site where users can come and submit their coupon codes not only for the world to share, but users can comment and rate their experiences using the codes. So if you have ever wanted to find an online promotional or discount code, now you can.
This gives online shoppers a world of discounts. I’ve now saved 30% over the year on my hosting and plan to use it for my next Apple, Bodybuilding.com and maybe even Victora’s Secret.
Their message is simple:
Coupon codes and discounts for 15,000 online stores!
Adding even more functionality, this service is also propelled through a Firefox Add-on, Mac Dashboard widget, iGoogle Gadget, and of course a bookmarklet.
Revenue model appears to be that they’re allowing retailers to ‘feature’ (i.e. sponsor) results. Great model, because the consumer is still winning.
This site offers some excellent savings for anyone who does their shopping in front of the screen, and is another great example of an online community using social media and the technologies available.

I was skim-reading this, thinking it wasn’t going to be useful to me and my eyes landed on ‘Firefox Add-on’ as I closed the page. So I came back… That’s a useful tool. I love Firefox add-ons - I wouldn’t Twitter at all if it wasn’t for Twitterfox :)
Firefox add-ons make the world go around. I think I have a few more posts coming up about them - including the Last.fm one. I’ve done quite a number of recommendations about them and I’m sure there’ll be a bunch more.
